My Design Statement

The essence of graphic design is to solve communication problems. Design is meant to improve visual communication by developing clarity and cultivating meaning. Although every project requires a custom approach, creating a clear hierarchy of visual elements is my primary objective. For this reason, my design philosophy is founded on attentiveness to detail. The strength of my work is derived from the internal craftsmanship rather than the overall plan
—this is what I call an inside-out process of creation.

My detail-oriented design process also functions to enrich compositions with aesthetic value in addition to design clarity. Much of my work has an illustrative quality that lends an organic feel to my compositions. This natural quality strengthens the connection to the viewer and softens the structural feel of my work. Value and hue are masterfully integrated into my work to create dynamic emphasis and variety. However, creating clarity also requires the intentional use of additional design elements. Line and shape are used to create bold spaces and intricate forms. This often creates a recognizable complexity in my work. I create cohesive spaces by grouping elements with dense proximity to one another. This process of grouping creates dynamic yet harmonious spaces with a unified sense of closure. Thus, through intentionality and cultivation, I craft creative resolutions to design challenges.
